A User's Guide to Safe Ride

  1. Safe Ride only accommodates groups of 3 or fewer passengers. This is because groups of more than 3 people are safer walking together than in smaller groups, so Safe Ride must use its limited time to pick up passengers in smaller, less safe groups.
  2. Safe Ride does not have a program to locate addresses. If you are at a Greek house, residence hall, or apartment complex, simply state the name of the location. Otherwise you will need to state the nearest intersection and specific corner (NE, NW, SE, SW). Please do not give an address to the dispatcher.
  3. Supervisors try to give accurate estimates of when a car will arrive. Regardless, make sure you are outside within 10 minutes of the time you call; if a car has been waiting for you, it will leave at that time and you will have to call back.
  4. You must call 621-SAFE to get a ride; please do not approach cars and ask for a ride.
  5. If you want to cancel a ride, please call back. When you reach the menu, press ‘2’ and you will be put directly through to a supervisor.
  6. Know your specific pick-up location. If you are unsure of where the Safe Ride car will pick you up, ask the dispatcher when you call in.
  7. Safe Ride cars cannot wait for you to grab something from your residence hall, apartment, etc. If you need to stop somewhere, you will have to call separately for another car to return to your original location.
  8. Safe Ride is an academic service: we do not transport intoxicated passengers . Drivers have the right to refuse service and supervisors have the right to cut off known party locations. To be directly connected with a cab company, call 621-SAFE and press ‘4.’
  9. If going to a grocery store, you may have a maximum of 3 bags per passenger.
  10. Always buckle your seat belt.
