Safe Ride is a service sponsored by the Associated Students of the University of Arizona (ASUA). The service provides free transportation to students in order to promote campus safety.
Safe Ride is open to all university-affiliated people. This includes all students, faculty, staff and their guests.
Safe Ride’s hours are:
6:30pm - 1:00am, Sunday – Thursday
6:30pm - 9:30pm, Friday
Safe Ride is a door-to-door service. We do not run on a route. Simply call 621-SAFE and we will pick you up and drop you off anywhere inside our boundaries.
Safe Ride only takes groups of three or fewer passengers to/from the same location. This is so that we are able to provide rides more quickly to students who are traveling alone and are facing a more serious safety risk. Please do not ask for rides for more than 3 people at a time.
To use Safe Ride simply call 621-SAFE. An operator will answer the phone and most times you will be put on hold. Calls are taken in the order they are received, so do not hang up. Callers are rarely on hold for over five minutes. When the operator is able to take your call you will be asked the following in this order: location you wish to be picked up, location you will be dropped off, your name, and number of passengers. Safe Ride does not have a program that locates addresses: please provide locations in the form of the name of the residence hall / apartment complex / sorority / fraternity or an intersection and specific corner (NE, NW, SE, SW). Please be prepared with this information when the operator comes on the line. A Safe Ride vehicle will be to your location in approximately 5 to 15 minutes, depending on how busy the service is. The operator will give you an estimate of the wait time on the phone.
Our boundaries extend roughly one mile in each direction off campus. Please visit our boundaries page for more information
Safe Ride is an academic service. Please do not call when you are at a party or intoxicated. Safe Ride supervisors reserve the right to cut off a location at any time if they believe there is a party there. Safe Ride drivers also reserve the right to refuse service to visibly intoxicated passengers.
All Safe Ride employees, from the management to the drivers, are UA students. If you are interested in working at Safe Ride, please see our employment page for more information.
Safe Ride currently has four phone lines and six vehicles: four cars, one minivan, and one golf cart. If you are reaching voicemail during our operating hours, it means all our lines are full. Please continue calling until an operator places you on hold. If you remain on hold, your call will be answered in the order it was received.
Safe Ride is prepared to accommodate passengers with all types of needs. While our regular service vehicles can handle almost any type of disability, in certain circumstances students using wheelchairs will be served by the cab company that Safe Ride contracts with for disability service. If you are disabled or have any other special needs, please inform the phone operator when you call so that arrangements can be made.
